It Is What It Is

Graces- 17 of 52

Well friends, I'm way behind on a lot of things, this blog included along with the graces- so we interrupt my dry spell for some things of beauty.  Flowers, greenery, garden goo-gahs - these are all things I'm grateful to look at on a daily basis. 

  

 

Aren't those froggies adorable?  I just love them.  My friend L, turned me on to these Carruth's cuties and to the special place you can buy them at reduced prices...

 

Don't you just love Hostas?  Especially the elephant ear size?  This is another gift from L, who divided some plants up and was kind enough to share.  (That's something else to be grateful for- gardener friends who like to share!!)

 

I love ferns on a front porch.  I really don't have a front porch to hang them from- so I improvise and set one upon an old stool that I trash picked!!

 

Nothing is more luscious than the smell of lilacs in the air.  

 

I love ornamental grasses....

 

Mother Nature's color palette of greens is unbelievable...

 

Is that not the cleverest plant hanger?  Another treasure I found with L.  (Are you seeing a pattern here?) 

 

Beloved worked extra hard to get this backyard in shape in time for Eldest's graduation party.  Notice the patio rug- he picked that out all on his own and I love it!  Way to go, Beloved.  Thanks for working so hard. 

 

Once more- just because I love the colors so much.  Enjoy.

1 Down....

Tonight was the Baccalaureate service for Eldest and her senior class.  It was a beautiful Mass with lots of pomp and circumstance...It was so emotional watching these young men and women process in arm in arm.  All of the parish priests of graduating seniors assisted with Mass.  It was so nice to see our previous Pastor, Fr. Mike and our current Associate Pastor, Fr. Dominic participating.  Especially moving for me was seeing  the kids that Eldest attended  grade school  with as well.  It's unimaginable how these kids have changed- but yet you can still see the youngsters they used to be.  Tomorrow is the official Graduation...keep the tissues handy.

Prom Revisited-1982

Never have it be said that I don't play fair.  Dear friends, I'm about to share with you a few prom pics from my Senior Year.  Hang on to your hats.....it isn't pretty. 

 

Yes- I'm wearing suntan pantyhose with my white strappy sandals.  Fortunately, they were the "nude toes" variety....I was a vision in white eyelet with pink satin trim ribbons. I purchased my dress at Foxmoor Casuals....I loved that store. 

 

That's me and Connie (Mom) posing in front of the official family photo background, the flowering crab-apple tree.  We have the same crinkly eye, crooked smile thing going on...

 

That's me, the date, mom and my neighbor and mom's good friend Marie and her daughter, Stephanie.  Marie, always a part of the special times in our lives will be coming to Eldest's graduation party this weekend. 

 

The date and I actually went to two proms together.  We attended different high schools and we went to each other's respective proms. (If you look carefully, you can tell the difference by my hairstyle.  And yes- I wore the same dress and the date rented the same tux for both shindigs...) I don't remember the theme of either one.  Now- I'm waiting for all of you to share with me- As a matter of fact I'm still waiting on Eldest to give me her prom pics to share with all of you.  This is a big week here at our house- It's graduation week.  I'll be sure to keep you all informed.  Keep checking back...

Old McDonald Had a Facebook...

Well, I've gone and done it.  I got myself a Facebook account.  Let me explain.   If you've been following me at all, you would know that I have some strong opinions about this Facebook thing.  My husband, my daughter, my sister and countless of other faces I know are on Facebook.  I felt like it was my civic duty.  I would be considered "unAmerican" if I didn't participate in Facebook.  What's a girl to do? 

I'll tell ya'- you go and have your Eldest set up the darn account for you....(be sure to check her work- because you don't want to sound like an eighteen year old version of yourself.)  Next, you have your Facebook savvy Beloved go and do all your admin work for you....bless his heart, he sent out a bunch of Friend requests....so when I got home from work today  I had all of these emails from Facebook.  "You have been confirmed as a friend."  How nice is that?  It's good to be confirmed as a friend.  I wonder if you get a message stating you've been denied as a friend?  How bad will that make me feel? 

I actually had been checking in with old college friends and high school friends that were already friends of Beloved.  A few people found me through him as well.  I guess it was time for me to step up to the plate. 

So, finally, because I didn't have enough places on the web that sucked my time away, I have a new place to search, read, update, post, check on....with a friend, friend here and a friend, friend there.. here a friend, there a friend, everywhere a friend, friend....

Know that you are loved and appreciated for who you are each and every day. 

 

We are all better people for the women who gave us motherly love and guidance. 

I know that I thank God each and every day for the children he blessed me with and for the mother he gave me.  I couldn't have asked for a better role model.

Prom Preview

Since Eldest has been too busy to give me her camera so I can upload/download (I'm never sure what is the correct verbage) her prom photos, I've decided to share some memories from the past.  Now- let me just say, it was a different decade people- so no judgin', no hatin' on the fabulous fashions I'm about to share with ya'll...

1980-

 That's Beloved with our good friend, T (who we do not see nearly enough.)  This is their Junior Prom at good old WHS.  I'm guessing by the artwork it must have been a Hollywood/Movie Theme.  I'm really enjoying the horizontal rainbow colored stripes as the background.  Beloved and T were great friends in high school and went to the prom together as "friends."  I don't know for sure, but if I was a betting woman, I'd say that was a Gunne Sax dress- all the rage during the 8o's.  They are quited coordinated in their colors all way down to their corsages.

Next up- 1982-

 

First let me say how impressed I am with WHS being so ahead of their time in recycling.  Clearly, they found something that worked and decided not to waste their horizontal rainbow colored decorations and have used them again, 2 years later.  This is Beloved with his high school sweetheart, G.  This is her Senior Prom and Beloved came home from college to attend.  Isn't that sweet?  I'm especially glad he decided to wear those white patent leather shoes with his dark suit.   I'm a little disappointed they didn't color coordinate as well as they could have...  Aren't they a cute couple?  Not really sure what this year's them was- maybe "99 Balloons?"  (Come on- admit it- that song is in your head now...) 

Do you have fond memories of your prom?  Do you have any memories at all or did you black out after a night of partying at the local Red Roof Inn?  (No judging people- that's the way we rolled in the 80's.  Drinking age was 18, you know...)
