So, Eldest is a senior this year. She and her friends still do the sleepover thing- but honestly, it's nothing like the sleepovers from my day. Take a look at this-
This is what they did the whole night- they sat next to each other on the couch with a movie playing on the TV in front of them. They were not really watching the movie, (which by the way was "Forgetting Sarah Marshal" which I say you should forget too-Really stupid. This is one of those the only funny parts were the trailer movies...)
Back to the sleepover- the movie was playing in the background, both of them had their phones out and in their hands and were texting to God knows who. They both also had their I-touch's out and were doing whatever the heck you do on those things, and my daughter had her laptop up and open and they were surfing FaceBook and My Space. So in actuality, there were approximately 3,129 people participating in this sleepover.
See the photo on the ITouch being held by gal on the right (Hi Kayla!) she was actually being quite interactive. She googled one of the actors in the movie to get more information about him and then shared her findings. (Do you like their tye-dyed hoodies? They made those earlier in the week when they were not having a sleepover, but still a tye-dye, text, surf, talk on the phone party. (Same diff.)
What happened to laying on the floor, eating popcorn, watching a movie, crank calling, dancing to records while looking in the mirror and reading Tiger Beat Magazine sleepovers?
Did I mention that we had to contact SBC to increase the bandwidth on our DSL due to all of the wireless appliances at hour house? (No, I'm not kidding.)
Doesn't anyone freeze bras anymore? Or what about Bloody Mary in the Mirror? Or the seance? They just don't know what they're missing.
What happened to "watching a movie, crank calling, dancing to records while looking in the mirror and reading Tiger Beat Magazine sleepovers" well my friend I can tell you: that's exactly what your girls did. Let me give you the new names for old favorites:
watching a movie = watching a movie
crank calling = text messaging (caller ID killed the crank call!)
dancing to records = playing music on ITouch
looking in the mirror = scrutinizing your Facebook page
reading Tiger Beat magazine = surfing the web
See, it's all still there. It just costs more.
